1) Korean real estate bubble will burst. All apartments will depreciate to 50% of present price.

2) President Rho will resign, naming Gohgun as the intrim acting president.

3) Korea will stop "sunshine policy" and all forms of contact with Kim Jongil's regime.

4) The US will go to war with Iran. Korean soldiers will fight side-by-side with American troops to topple Iranian regime.

5) South Korea and Japan will announce mutual defense treaty aimed at China-NK coalition.

6) Economic hardship (lost 20 years) will start.

7) NK will attack SK in limited scale on sea and near DMZ. Korean people will learn to hate NK to the max. China will be hated as well for helping KJI regime.

8) FTA with the US will not pass.

9) American troop withdrawal from Korea will accelerate. Koreans will be scared and many will flee the country. Laws will be passed to block Korean nationals from leaving the country.

10) Foreign investments will plunge. Stock market and real estate will dive with no bottom. Korea will go down from its peak (2006) as many countries in Asia and SouthAmerica have done in history. The miracle of Han river will end and Korea will deteriorate into a third world country. All because so-called liberals(=Commies) played the anti-American card and that accelerated the US withdrawal from Korea. Koreans brought this to themselves. No one to blame.

North Korean (DPRK) government is building intercontinental missiles with nuclear warhead. Kim Jongil officially stated that these missiles will be used against the US. These poor rats want to steal a piece of pie from the US without earning it. KJI want to get it by threatening America.

Meanwhile, South Koreans who are supposed to be the allies of the US have been aiding DPRK. SKs pump billions of dollars to that evil regime through tourism, economic aids and sham projects. Most of money goes directly to KJI's effort to develop longer range missles and stronger nuke warheads. SKs know this and yet they continue. Maybe they want to attack the US themselves.

It is about time for America to wake up and punish these Talibans who are aiding the enemy. Boycott Samsung electronic products and Huyndai cars. When Americans buy these products, considerable part of the purchase money is going to DPRK and to Kim Jongil.

Just boycott these products! And, the next step is stopping KAL and Asiana, the two SK airlines, from flying over the continental USA, in the fear that these airlines may carry DPRK terrorists and spies.

If the US consistently press this point, South Koreans will change. Boycotting Korean products will bring about riots in Korea and 180 degree turnabout in Korean society. You can not sell your products to the US while being in kahoots with the enemy. Send a strong message! Hurt them where it hurts the most, in their pockets.

How NK will beat SK?

In the 1950 Korean War, North Koreans got Soviet tanks that caught South Koreans totally unprepared. SKs were expecting no tanks or inferior tanks used by the Japanese.

These Soviet tanks were something else. Koreans did everything they could, running suicide attack on it, shooting cannons, going underneath with a landmine, etc. Nothing worked. As a result, SKs lost. They had no information about Soviet tanks and they had nothing to stop it.

What if NKs get something like that from China. A biological germs which SKs have no antidote for. A new chemical agent that can kill SKs that are not prepared for. How about tactical nuclear shells that takes out a 1000 soldiers per shot? Something that SKs are not prepared for.

How about going around DMZ that are strongly fortified? Use the Nazi idea on France. China is a friend of NK and what if it lets NKs to use its ports. NKs will get on troop ships(could be even Chinese warships) and move in the back of Korean defense line.

Or, just carpet-shelling with their long-range artillery. This action alone may kill the president and all generals who are in Seoul, within the range of the guns. Or, use spies to attack all of them at the same time.

There are many scenarios that SKs have not prepared for. There are many!

SK will lose. NK cannot lose because China will protect it, just as in Korean War. The best SK can hope for is to hold it long enough for the US to arrive. But, would the US come?

The dire moment of Korean history

Korean government has decide to take the "leading role" in the defense of Korea. While this sounds reasonable and justified, in reality, this is a kick-in-the-butt for American troops.

US soldiers will never take commands from Korean officers. No way. Koreans know this and the US knows this. Then, this decision by Korean government is tentamount to saying "Thank you for your service in Korea, but we don't need you any more. Now, get out".

This, actually, came at the great time for the US, which has been dying to pull troops out of Korea. Rumsfeld is so happy that he is smiling all day long.

So, what comes next? Korean government will rely on lying and propaganda. Today Korean defense minister says "we can take care of NK artilleries in six minutes after the hostilities start". How? How are Koreans find locations of these artilleries which are hidden inside the mountains? Six minutes? Ridiculous lie.

Majority of Koreans, who do not have great scientific skills, do not even doubt. They trust their defense minister. It is so absurd. You know what? This exact thing, lies by defense minister, happened prior to 1950 Korean war. The minister at that time guaranteed that Korean forces would easily defeat NK force, which proved to be a blatant lie.

The US forces are pulling out and storm of war is covering Korean peninsula. When the US attacks Iran, NK will come down with Chinese weapons. Not necessarily through DMZ. They may go to China and take chinese warships to land in the back of Korean troops. And, they will use non-conventional weapons, such as biological agents, chemicals or tactical nuke shells.

South Korea will lose and SK will be absorbed into NK, as happened in VietNam. Under Kim Jongil. And, five years after that, China will order United Korea to attack Japan, which will make mince-meat out of Koreans.

Korean people, significantly dwindled due to war deaths, will be dispersed into China to get food and eventually become a minority people of China. Korea, as a country, will no longer exist.

All these will come to pass within twenty years. Even ten.

맥아더 장군이 돌아간 이후에도 그는 사흘을 더 버텼다.
“결국 후퇴 명령을 받았습니다. 중대원들에게 명령을 전달하며 미친 듯이 돌아다니고 있었죠. 갑자기 다리가 오그라들더니 펴지질 않더라고요. 그러고도 150m를 뛰었어요. 살기 위해 아무 집이나 찾아가 부뚜막 아궁이에 숨었는데, 착한 주인이 온몸을 닦아주고 빨간 헝겊을 찢어서 인민군 치료소에 데리고 가주더군요.”
하지만 3개월이 지나도록 총탄에 맞은 다리를 치료받지 못했다. 무릎에선 구더기까지 나왔다. 결국 다리를 절단했다. 다리를 절며 절며 찾아간 강원도 춘천. 하지만 남동생은 형을 찾으러 가겠다며 인민군에 합류했다는 소식을 들었다. 그리고 못 만난 세월이 무려 56년이 됐다.

This is false. The process by which the Bible formed was one that took time; it was not collated at any one time. Nor did Constantine have anything to do with the process, either before or after he converted to Christianity.

-What evidence is there that the Bible formed independently of Constantine?

The Old Testament canon had been forming for centuries. Jesus and the apostles already recognized the authority of the Old Testament writings that existed in their time, as illustrated by the following verses:
"And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself" (Luke 24:27).

In response to these new, false writings the churches drew up lists of the authentic books that had been handed down from the apostles. A famous list of the sacred writings from the mid-second century is known as the Muratorian Canon.The process by which the canon of Scripture was formed was largely complete by the time of Constantine (the early fourth century), and he made no contribution to it. It is true that Constantine, following his conversion to Christ, presided over the First Council of Nicaea, but it is not true that Constantine "turned Jesus into a deity" or that Christians had not viewed Jesus as God prior to this event.Constantine had called the Council together to settle a dispute that had arisen when a priest from Egypt named Arius began to deny that Jesus was God, causing a scandal by repudiating the faith of Christians everywhere. Arius gained a number of followers (known as Arians) and the controversy between the Arians and traditional Christians grew so sharp that the emperor called the Council to settle the matter. How do you answer this?Brown is asserting this in order to deny the evidence that exists against his position. He cannot back this claim up, for there is no evidence for it whatsoever. There is a number of reasons for this, some of which we will see below, but one reason is that the writings of the Church Fathers (and even non-Christian historians) before the time of Constantine show that Christians regarded Jesus as God.Consider the following quotations, all of which predate the Council of Nicaea:

The book claims that the two were married. In fact, it claims that Jesus got Mary Magdalene pregnant, and the two had a daughter. The book states:
Mary Magdalene was pregnant at the time of the crucifixion. For the safety of Christ's unborn child, she had no choice but to flee the Holy Land. . . . It was there in France that she gave birth to a daughter. Her name was Sarah. Later the book claims that this union gave rise to a bloodline that still exists in prominent European families (including one of the book's main characters, Sophie Neveu). It also claims that the Catholic Church knows about this and has covered it up for centuries, even resorting to murdering Christ's own descendants to protect the secret:
Behold . . . the greatest cover-up in human history. Not only was Jesus Christ married, but He was a father. . . .The early Church feared that if the lineage were permitted to grow, the secret of Jesus and Magdalene would eventually surface and challenge the fundamental Catholic doctrine-that of a divine Messiah who did not consort with women or engage in sexual union. . . . Many of the Vatican's Grail quests here were in fact stealth missions to erase members of the royal bloodline.
How do you respond to these claims?It is irresponsible and offensive for Brown to impugn the faith of countless Catholics in this fashion. He has no solid evidence to support these contentions, and in the absence of such evidence it is unacceptable to smear the faith of millions with these charges.A comparable smear would be saying that Lutherans have been murdering the descendants of Luther or that Jewish leaders have been murdering the descendants of Moses. If such charges were made, particularly with no evidence, they would be regarded instantly as vicious and bigoted slanders against what other people hold sacred.Claiming that Catholics have been killing the descendants of their God is a vile and unacceptable assault on their faith. People of all faiths should regard Dan Brown as the viciously bigoted man that it takes to make this kind of charge.

-What is one to make of The Da Vinci Code's specific claim that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene?

It is impossible to take this claim seriously.The reason that Brown and a handful of others (chiefly New Age authors) have tried to identify Mary Magdalene as the wife of Jesus is obvious: She is one of the few women disciplines of Christ who is prominent, whose name we know, and whom we don't know was married to someone else. Other female disciples of Jesus are known to be married to others (e.g., Joanna the wife of Chuza [Luke 8:3]) or are too insignificant ("the other Mary" [Matt. 28:1]) or we don't know their names (the Syro-Phoenecian woman [Matt. 15:28]). If one wants to force Jesus into the role of being married, Mary Magdalene is one of the few prominent and (seemingly) available women to be pushed into the role of being his wife.Furthermore, there is nothing in the New Testament that states or implies that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene. According to the New Testament, Mary of Magdala was a devout follower of Christ and one of the first witnesses of his Resurrection (cf. Matt. 28:1), but not his wife. There is no evidence in the New Testament or the writings of the Church Fathers that she was married to Jesus.Jesus also said things that indicated that he wasn't married to anyone. He explained that some voluntarily refrain from marrying in order to be fully consecrated to God. He says that they "have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake" (Matt. 19:12). China may start using NK to attack Japan!

The following events may take place.
1) NK will be very belligerent toward Japan, attacking Japanese boats and even shooting some missiles.
2) The US will be put into an awkward position. To defend Japan, the US may have to start a war against NK. However, this will not pass in the Congress. Koizumi’s Yasukuni visits will be a convenient excuse for the US not to commit troop. The US will just take the issue to the UN.
3) When NK attacks heighten and the Japanese require the US to live up to the mutual defense treaty, the US will reluctantly have to commit troops.
4) This is where the most intriguing events will follow. South Koreans will ask the US to leave the country! SK will join NK and China alliance.
China wants this consequence and may activate this scenario.

The US will pull out of Korea and just supply the Japanese Self-Defense Corps some missles to fight the war against NKs. As soon as the US pulls out of SK, NK ends hostilities against Japan, with China working as the peacemaker.

Five years later, the Unified Korea attacks Japan under China’s orders. The US is nowhere to be found.

You are right. I have a religious bias against Evolution, especially about the part where all living organisms on earth started from one super cell. I rather think we are designed by an intelligent being. Carl Sagan used to say, "there are billions and billions stars" and he implied that they are billions and billions of intelligent creatures in universe. Why is it so ridiculous to consider the possibility of some "Super Being" designing all creatures on earth? I believe these evolutionists are very biased to the extent of being dishonest.

If these Biology-textbook-clenching evolutionists at least acknowledge that there is a chance that we could have been designed by a foreign being, that would be a progress.
However, these evolutionists are very religious, very dogmatic. They do not want to include any possibility other than the status quo. For them, no other theory than what we know now is acceptable!

What a bunch of hypocrites! Mathematical probability suggests that there is at least 50% chance that we have been designed by a foreign being or beings. An honest person would see this right away.

However, these bigots say that there is no evidence and therefore they cannot accept the intelligent design.

Christians have been saying the same thing. Since there is no "missing link" between the monkey and the man, evolution can not be admitted. So, now these so-called unbiased scientists are using the same excuse as the Christians? What we do not see don't exist?

With mathematical and theoretical calculations, we trust that there could be billions and billions of planets like earth. Then, it is a certainty that many have travelled to the earth. Why can't biologists see this? Why can't they accept from mathematical probability that the intelligent design has just much merit as their "random beginning" theory.

By the way, I do not believe the aliens designed creatures on earth. I trust it is the Supreme Being who created THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE has made the Earth and creatures.

Those three researchers in Schatten lab are caught in the middle of a bad controversy. Not just a controversy but a nation that wants to use science to enhance its self-esteem.
The Korean media is much to blame. They along with some politicians and industrialists have boosted Hwang to be more than a scientist. They promoted Hwang to be the best Korean, a Dangoon-LeeSunshin-SantaClause rolled into one person.
Hwang advertised himself to be a SantaClause, saying his research will bring untold wealth into Korea. Promising a world of possiblities with Korea in the center.
It was nothing but a pipe dream now. Hwang's results, starting from the cow he allegedly cloned, are under review. Some entities beside MBC will soon look into Hwang's research results including Snuppy.
Wilmut kept silent after selling his lies to PPL therapeutics, but Hwang didn't know when to stop. He felt safe as long as he stayed in Korea and keep feeding cloning lies labelled as national treasures.
The three scientists in Schatten's lab must escape the situation. There is angry mob waiting to hurt them when they return to Korea. They'd better just to hide out in America. "Mum" is the word.

Many news this morning point to "cover up" in full swing. MBC cancelled its broadcast on Hwang's results. We may never see the confession of Dr.Kim that is so crucial in MBC's argument. And, looks like there will be no verification of Hwang's discoveries by a third party, either.

It all points to one thing: Payoff has been made.

Look at the case of ParkUlsoon, the Runaway Scientist from Hwang's lab. She was cleaning pig's cage one day and the next day she developed "world-class technique in nucleus removal". Literally anybody can become a biologist. A world-class biologist, if you willing to bend the rules a bit! A man who will feed many, many future generations of Koreans, as Hwang claims himself to be.

My comment: PD Soochup had no chance from the start. Scientific establishment itself does not want the truth. I was somewhat surprised at Science journal's attitude, but this article names it to be a "cover-up artist".
The Nature magazine is in "ambivalent" mood on Hwang as well. It wants to catch Hwang so that Wilmut(their native son) can claim the crown. Yet, blowing the cover off Hwang could come back and bite Wilmut, who is still suspected for fraud himself by American scientists include Walter Gilbert, a powerhouse at Harvard.
Hwang is just a small player in the world of biomedical battle ground. If he is not careful, he will go down, and take Korea and Korean scientists worldwide with him.

It is such an outrage that Wilmut was never told by anybody to repeat his experiment. The world will not have no argument with Wilmut if he had made Dolly2, Dolly3, etc. and have the world scientists to examine his creation freely.
However, he did not. He sold the technique to PPL Therapeutics and the company immediated seal the technique as proprietary. A perfect crime.

Back to the main topic....Hwang's team announced today that they would not do verification of their recent paper on human stem cells. What kind of scientists are they? Wilmut's kind, I guess.
This is the state of biomedical science these days. They write a paper but they do not have to repeat the experiment. This goes against the very definition of science,"Bacon described a repeating cycle of observation, hypothesis, experimentation, and the need for independent verification."
Biologists are not scientists. There is no longer independent verification. A lie can perpetuate as did with Arab alchemists who claimed to have made gold from other elements. Wilmut started this trend and Hwang is following the technique.
Schatten wrote a disclaimer recently to the Science journal that he only proof-read and corrected Hwang's paper and that he by no means was a part of Hwang's research team. He does not want to go down with Hwang.

Hwang's experiments only take one day to verify. If they have stem cells as they claim, then just get a hair from the somatic cell donors and give them to a third party, like the Korean Scientific investigation service. The neutral party will do everything(extracting DNA and running gels) in one day and give the results. Just one short day!
Hwang's team say they cannot do it. The entire nation is embroiled in the controversy and yet these liars who are paid with Korean taxpayers money refuse to do the minimum. Why is that? Nobody is asking them to repeat the entire experiment, the nuclear transfer and all. Just verify the outcome. Yet, they refuse. Why?
Kushibo, about your question. I am not a member of AAAS and I cannot excess the article. I read in a Korean newspaper that corrections have been made to Hwang's second article. Instead of 11 successes, the correction shot down about 3 as questionable stem cells and 3 as total failures. I guess that Schatten made this corrections. Remember that in his parting announcement Schatten said that Hwang's second article contained some "technical" errors? The same newspaper article said that Schatten clarified and narrowed his "role" in the same correction. His contribution to the Hwang's second paper was just proof-reading the initial article and supplying comments.

The most recent tidbit about Hwang's controversy is that some pictures sent to the Science along with the second article were found to be wrong. Some pictures were generated from others by shooting from different angles and enlarging.
Hwang's team acknowledged that those pictures are from the same sample. They claim that those were simple mistakes.
Hardly! These are pictures of their prized stem cells. And, these pictures prove the state of those cells. How can they mix up such important experimental results? What other simple mistakes were made? Maybe some observations? Additional experiments done to verify these are indeed stem cells?
It is obvious that they exaggerated their success rate. PD soochup got a tip that some of Hwang's "cloned" stem cells were the same ones as those supplied by Mizmed hospital, the Rho Sungil's outfit where they have created several stem cells from discarded eggs and sperms!

What they want to do is to mix sperm and ova to create a living baby cells growing and multiplying in the laboratory. They will build a womb-like environment where these poor humanoids will live and grow.
Whenever necessary, these scientists will draw out some cells and inject them into patients. For spine injury case, they hope these cells will develop into backbone. For diabetics, insuline cells.
Is this OK? I don't think so. Just think about all those "humanoids"(sperm+egg) that have to die. Millions of them. Necessary to advance science? To make a better world?
Then, how do you feel about killing mental retarded and disabled? Would'nt it make a "better" world? A perfect world?

Wilmut and Hwang's claim about somatic-cell-nucleus-transfer cloning is just a lie. It doesn't work. Even if it works, they themselves claim that it only works once in a blue moon. 1 out of 400, in Wilmut's Dolly(a lie). Hwang's claim of 1 out 11 is hotly debated by Korean media. Hwang refused a third party verification of his results.
Their "cloning" is just a front to ease the conscience of Westerners. In the backyard of the lab, one lab worker is ejaculating on the eggs. Koreans are doing it. Scientists with no moral boundaries. Hwang's team is making these "babies" illegally. They are mating these purchased eggs with human sperms and mass-producing stem cells in large quantity. Japan and China may be doing it too.
England just allowed Wilmut to do human cloning. I wonder if British scientists will do this "sperm" trick.
In any case, Koreans are doing it! Not Brazilians or Indians. But, Koreans. Heroes to those who wait for "Brave New World", but the worst savages in the eye of those who have ethics. Dr.Hwang knew where Rho was getting his "eggs" and he thought that was none of his business.
Then, his assistants gave their eggs. He knew this was wrong but one of the donors asked him to keep quite because she was not married. So, he lied when he was asked about it.
Lying. And, covering up someone else's illegal activity that directly affects his scientific quests. Is he a trustworthy person?
Hwang is a known liar from now on to the rest of the world. Only Koreans are going to protect his reputation, but for how long?
Since he is now a certified liar, will his works,which have never been duplicated anywhere else, be trusted? The Journal Science should drop Hwang's articles. Anything written by him is unreliable!

Personally, I do not believe Wilmut's Dolly was a clone. He had tried to clone a sheep for over twenty years. He finally lied when his funding was about to be cut.
Getting nuclear DNA's from a fully grown and fully differentiated cells and having it "start from the very beginning" in an ovum, is in my opinion a fiction.
Schatten, himself, originally published an article that for sophisticated organisms like monkeys and men this was not possible. Then, he recanted when Hwang allegedly cloned a human(human ovum with full set of DNA start diving. What else you call it?).
If you assume that Hwang was lying, then Schatten was right the first time. When I read his article, it included some mathematical and highly evolutionary proofs that sound plausible. Maybe, he was right all along. I think so.

Here are some of possiblities of what is going on right now.1)Hwangs explaination: He got nucleus from a somatic(fully differentiated)skin cell and inserted it into an ovum and it started to grow. Is it a copy of skin cell? He says no. It is much more than that. He says it is a stem cell that can grow into anything you want. Is it a human baby? No, he says. It is not human. Then, what is it? He says a stem cell. What is the difference between this "stem" cell and a baby? He says none. This cell can grow into a human being if inserted into a womb.
2) My take: i)If it is not a whole human, then it cannot grow into the useful body parts. A skin cell can only be a skin cell as it has differentiated. Dr. Hwang claims he can change it into something else. He is working on it, but nothing has worked out. Meanwhile, he is telling everyone that this will be done. It is dangerous for a scientist to promise something that he may or may not be able to deliver.
ii) What if it is what Dr.Hwang says it is? A human seed. A cloned human. Aren't we killing the man? Is it OK to use human subject in developing drugs? Koreans are taught from early on that it is quite OK to kill in advancing science. And, Kimbob, you are too. A human being killed! It is a murder! For a Buddhist like Hwang may think it to be OK, but not for me. I believe that thing in Dr.Hwang's test tube may have a soul. It may be God's creature. And, I will not allow Dr.Hwang to kill him. Not even to make use of him to develop these wonderful drugs and therapies. I morally object to it, since I believe that Dr.Hwang may have sneaked in a sperm to form his "stem" cell(then it is truly a murder).

Korean stem-cell crisis deepens
Further claims surface that junior researchers donated eggs.

The pressure on stem-cell pioneer Woo Suk Hwang over the way he obtained human eggs for his research is intensifying - particularly in South Korea, where he had been a national hero. In the past week, several new claims have emerged that Hwang may have used eggs that were paid for, as well as eggs from junior members of his laboratory.Hwang's team, based at Seoul National University, has produced a string of landmark papers in stem-cell research, including the first stem cells obtained from a cloned human embryo (W. S. Hwang et al. Science 303, 1669-1674; 2004) and the first patient-matched embryonic stem cells (W. S. Hwang et al. Science 308, 1777-1783; 2005).Recently, his research has been overshadowed by allegations about the way he obtained eggs, but until now these have come from outside his home country.

In 2004, Nature published a claim that Hwang's group had used eggs from one of his graduate students - a charge Hwang has constantly denied. The student later withdrew her claim. Then two weeks ago, Hwang's close friend and collaborator Gerald Schatten of the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, broke off ties. He accused Hwang of possible ethical irregularities and misrepresentations regarding egg donation, although he gave no other details.Now further claims of possible impropriety are arising closer to home. On 21 November, Sun Il Roh, a fertility expert at MizMedi Hospital in Seoul, gave a press conference at which he admitted that 20 eggs that he had procured and given to Hwang for his 2004 study were paid for. According to Korean newspaper reports, Roh said he paid 1.5 million won (US$1,430) of his own money to each of the 20 women whose eggs were used in the experiment. Quoted in the JoongAng Daily, he says: "This is not a large amount of money, considering that they had to receive injections every day for 8-10 days." But Roh, who was a co-author on Hwang's 2005 paper, insists that Hwang did not know the status of the eggs he received. Roh did not respond to Nature's requests for an interview.Although buying eggs for research was not illegal when the eggs were procured in 2003, the practice is hugely controversial, and has been illegal in Korea since last January. Supplementary material to Hwang's 2004 paper clearly states that all egg donors were volunteers.

On 22 November, as Nature went to press, Seoul-based Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) was to run an investigative programme that it said would show further evidence that Hwang used eggs from junior members of his lab. Obtaining eggs from a graduate student is problematic because of the risk that personal pressure could be applied.According to an MBC producer, the programme was to produce medical records of egg donors from MizMedi Hospital. The records allegedly show that at least one of the donors was a researcher in Hwang's lab. MBC says the researcher in question is not the student who last year told Nature she had donated eggs at MizMedi, before withdrawing the claim.Furthermore, an informer, who MBC says is closely linked to Hwang's lab, allegedly provided the station with experimental notes containing the donor's name, patient number and the date the eggs were used. MBC claims these details match the MizMedi medical reports. The Chosun Ilbo on Tuesday cited another source claiming that eggs from two researchers in Hwang's lab were used. One was "a graduate student who invented a new way of removing the nucleus from eggs and is now working at a research institute in a US university", it said.Hwang has not replied to Nature's repeated requests for an interview.The effects of the allegations on the stem-cell field and on Hwang's research are unclear. On 15 November, after the news of Schatten's separation, the Korean government laid out plans to invest 11.5 billion won in the World Stem Cell Hub, an international research network to have been led by Hwang. But it also proposed to detach the hub from Seoul National University and make it an independent body. Many potential overseas collaborators have said their plans are on hold until the allegations are resolved.

How these events will affect Hwang's team's ability to publish is another open topic. "It's pretty clear that the editor of any journal would be on heightened alert if they received a piece of work from them, and would probably scrutinize it very carefully for the ethics of the work at the very least," says Gregory Curfman, executive editor of The New England Journal of Medicine.
"If it turned out that deliberate falsifications had been communicated to us in connection with that paper we would certainly have to make an announcement of that," says Donald Kennedy, editor-in-chief of Science, which published the work. "We would certainly say something about the caution with which we would treat future communications from that group."Most are holding out for a revelatory statement from Schatten or Hwang, who has been rumoured to be planning a press conference this week. "I hope Dr Hwang will give us the whole story," says Kennedy. "There's a different onus on Schatten - he has issued a dramatic statement and he's leaving it like a dead seal on our collective desks."

U.S. Scientist Leaves Joint Stem Cell Project
Alleged Ethical Breaches By South Korean Cited

A leading University of Pittsburgh researcher on embryonic stem cells said yesterday that he will disengage from a recently launched collaboration with a team of world-renowned South Korean scientists because he is convinced that the lead Korean researcher had engaged in ethical breaches and lied to him about them.

The Pitt scientist, Gerald P. Schatten, has for more than a year been the prime American stem cell scientist working with the South Korean researcher, Woo Suk Hwang of Seoul National University. Hwang was featured prominently in news reports in 2004 when he and his co-workers became the first to grow human embryonic stem cells from cloned human embryos. Since then, he has become something of a national hero and a global scientific celebrity.

Human embryonic stem cells, which have the capacity to become every kind of human tissue and are highly coveted for their potential to treat a wide variety of diseases, had previously been harvested only from conventional human embryos created through the union of sperm and eggs.

By deriving stem cells from cloned embryos, Hwang offered the first proof that a theorized approach to stem cell medicine -- "therapeutic cloning," or the creation of stem cells genetically matched to any patient who needed them -- was achievable.

Embryo cloning requires human eggs, which are typically donated by women in a process that requires a month-long series of hormone injections followed by a minor but not risk-free surgical procedure. Because of the modest but real health risks involved, researchers who perform the procedure are required to get informed consent from donors and fulfill other ethics requirements.

For many months after Hwang's 2004 publication, rumors had spread in scientific circles that the eggs Hwang used to achieve that landmark result had been taken from a junior scientist in his lab. That situation, if true, would be in violation of widely held ethics principles that preclude people in positions of authority from accepting egg donations from underlings. The rules are meant to prevent subtle -- or not-so-subtle -- acts of coercion.

Questions have also circulated as to whether the woman received illegal payments for her role.

Schatten said that Hwang had repeatedly denied the rumor and that he had believed Hwang until yesterday. "I now have information that leads me to believe he had misled me," Schatten said. "My trust has been shaken. I am sick at heart. I am not going to be able to collaborate with Woo Suk."

Just last month, at a high-level ceremony in Seoul attended by the South Korean president, Schatten and Hwang had announced a major not-for-profit collaboration that was to involve the creation of at least two major human embryo cloning labs in the United States and Britain. The plan was to have Korean scientists churn out as many as 100 specialized stem cell colonies each year for distribution to scientists for disease research.

Schatten said the University of Pittsburgh will release a statement today announcing its decision to pull out of that still nascent arrangement. Schatten said he will also announce his discovery of certain technical mistakes in a scientific paper he and Hwang had published together this year, though he added that he believes those errors were unintentional and did not represent evidence of scientific misconduct. He emphasized that the science behind the 2004 paper documenting the derivation of stem cells from cloned human embryos remains, to his knowledge, reliable.

The impact of yesterday's revelations could be far-reaching, Schatten and others acknowledged. Hundreds of scientists have visited Hwang's Seoul laboratories in the past two years, and many have initiated collaborations with him. The field has also been under scrutiny because of ethical concerns about the creation and destruction of cloned human embryos.

"The National Academy of Sciences guidelines for stem cell research prohibits payment to egg donors, and scientists in the U.S. have embraced those principles," said George Daley, a researcher at the Harvard Stem Cell Institute and at Children's Hospital Boston, who is scheduled to visit Hwang in Seoul later this month to look into setting up a collaboration. "There is a right way and a wrong way, and we must be sure to perform this vitally important medical research the right way."

Hwang could not be reached for comment last night.

Dog eat dog world

Dr. Hwang's team says that they succeeded in cloning a dog from a fully-developed cell. Indeed. What was the cloned dog's telemere lengths? Were they shorter or at the same length as other puppies?

After 1,000 tries any scientist will be tempted to sneak a sperm in. You get an egg and a sperm. You mate them and put the egg into a surrogate mother. Who is going to find out?

Only way to debunk this is to do a nucleotide-by-nucleotide matching on entire dog genome. But, then these jokers are going to insist that there are DNA crossing at the point of initial splitting. Just like in the case of cat cloning, these liars already have covered their asses.

A perfect crime. A lucrative one to boot.

Someday all these jokers will be laughed at in the scientific field. Just like claims of yore that gold can be made from other elements. There were numerous claims. And, like a perpetual motion machine. There were again many claims.

Or, like the cold fusion.

It only takes time. However, till they are found out, these jokers will bilk Korean government for billions of dollars. Well, fools lose money.

Recent trip to Korea

I was in Korea for the month of July. Things were expensive; I had to pay $220 for a group dinner for seven. And, I was hungry after the dinner. It was too expensive for a Chinese food given out in small portions; the restaurant charged $46 for a small dish of shrimps.

And, I think the prices will only go up. Korean government is printing mucho money and not accepting any foreign goods just like the Japanese. Soon, I will have to pay $20 for a regular meal. It will become just like Japan.

I will live in the good ol' USA for the rest of my life. At least, I will eat good.

1) What did he actually make? Dr. Hwang says that he took out the nucleus of a female egg and injected the full set of DNA from the skin cell.

a) Was there a third party observer? No.

b) Was his results verified by any other labs? No.

- He says he injected this stem cells and a dog which lost spine function has MIRACULOUSLY regained the function: WTF, if it is a dog, use a dog stem cell! Why inject human parts to a dog?

- He says this is how Wilmut made the Dolly and he made a copy of a cow : I seriously doubt these results. They have never been verified by a third party. Never! Liars like Wilmut and Hwang can join up to spread more lies because no one checks their claims. Biologists are not scientists! They have become media acrobats.

- Wilmut stumbled when "telomere" discovery was made. He had to kill Dolly in a hurry because of this question about telomere length. I want to ask Dr. Hwang about telomere lengths in his cells.

2) Why am I so against him?

- Dr. Hwang is grabbing nearly all of Korea's medical research budget. I think the money can be used better in systematic genetic sequencing and matching diseases to the genetic sequences. Dr. Hwang is promising a cure of terminal diseases without even knowing what he made. Who can know the results of scientific quest? No one should promise something he cannot deliver. Liars love to do this for money.

- If Dr. Hwang were actually making a human, I do not like him in the ethical arena. He is basically not only killing a human being but growing a human being for the purpose of lab testing. THIS IS A MURDER. Premeditated one as well.

All civilized and Christian nations will abhor at what he is doing eventually. The pope will speak out against it. And, many protestants will follow. Only buddhists, of which Dr.Hwang is one who thinks these babies have to die for the good of the living, will condone this. And, atheists.

Stop this madness. First, ask for a third party verifications of his claims. Question lab personnel in the promise of anonymity. Second, limit Dr. Hwang do his research with pigs, dogs, and monkeys. He can find the cure on the animals first. Then after perfecting his technique and his theory, he can work on humans.

His way of shoot-in-the-dark research is killing too many humans in the test tube. And, leave human eggs where they are. Human eggs are sacred objects, not toys for Dr. Hwang.

5 Hours that changed Korean History

General MacArthur flew into SuWon airfield at 1115, 29 June 1950. He just came for a look-see. All Americans were evacuated from Korea as planned. He had done his job well. He was there to see and feel the battle freeze again.

The president Truman and his advisors were dead set against the U.S. involvement in Korea. They had no inkling of fighting Russians in Korean peninsula. If Russia so desires, then it could have that primitive people and the land. They didn't care.

McArthur did not care, either. The United States just finished the WWII and it was not ready to start an another global scale war again. At least, not so soon. He just came for his entertainment.

However, something changed him before he flew out of Korea at 1600. Whatever happened to him in those five hours changed Korean history. He made orders to bomb North Korea even before Truman allowed him to. He strongly advocated and achieved the U.S. troop deployment to Korea.

What was it that affected him and changed him in those five hours? What did happen? As a Korean native, I like to know. Maybe a divine vision? If not, how could a man change so abruptly? It was a miracle!

I wonder about two what-ifs.
1) What if someone other than McArthur was in charge?
2) What if nothing happened to him when he visited SuWon?

All Koreans would have been living under Kim Jongil, starving to death. There had been no "miracle on Han river". No democracy. No freedom. Utter poverty, ignorance and death.

Koreans need to thank this man and God from the bottom of their hearts.

Remembering General McArthur the true warrior

Given the grave danger of a complete collapse of morale and fighting spirit among the South Korean people, General MacArthur felt that only a dramatic move would stiffen their resolve to resist. He decided to visit the country as immediate, symbolic proof of American backing. According to General Almond, MacArthur's chief of staff, the visit was also a search for firsthand knowledge of what the Korean Army was doing, what it intended to do next, and what President Rhee and Ambassador Muccio had to say.
Against the advice of his staff officers, who were apprehensive over extremely poor flying conditions and the threat of enemy air attack, General MacArthur flew to Korea. He landed at Suwon Airfield at 1115, 29 June 1950. Five members of his staff and four newsmen were with him.

Although two YAK fighter planes of the North Korean Air Force appeared over Suwon and one dropped a bomb at one end of the runway, MacArthur and his party landed safely. They went to a small schoolhouse where General Church and the American officers of ADCOM awaited them. President Syngman Rhee, Mr. Muccio, and General Chae were also there. At General MacArthur's request, the meeting opened with a resume of the current military situation by General Church, who said he had been able to locate only 8,000 of the ROK Army's original 100,000 men. While he was speaking, he received a report that 8,000 more had been gathered and that Korean officers hoped to have another 8,000 by evening.
After a few brief remarks from Muccio, General MacArthur stated, "Well, I have heard a good deal theoretically, and now I want to go and see these troops...." MacArthur and his group, in "three old, broken-down cars," drove thirty miles north to the south bank of the Han below Seoul, where they could see the enemy firing from the city at targets near them. By mid-afternoon, MacArthur had seen all he needed to and returned to Suwon Airfield, then departed about 1600.

General MacArthur had not waited for this JCS directive to order operations in North Korea. On the flight to Korea, according to Colonel Storey, his pilot, MacArthur had issued orders via his plane radio at 0800 (Korean time), 29 July 1950, saying to FEAF headquarters back in Tokyo, "Partridge from Stratemeyer, Take out North Korean airfields immediately. No publicity. MacArthur approves." This action took place twenty-four hours before the JCS authorized such action in accordance with the Presidential approval. Col. John Chiles, then SGS GHQ, UNC, told the author (September 1955) that he heard MacArthur give this order, dictating it to General Stratemeyer. And one of the newspapermen who was present on the plane, Roy McCartney, recounts the following narrative contained in Norman Bartell, ed., With the Australians in Korea (Canberra: Australian War Memorial, 1954), pages 165-79: "On the way to Korea, MacArthur resumed pacing, while weighing out loud how he could 'take out' the airfields from which North Korean Yak fighters were operating. 'Where's the President's directive?' he asked his intelligence chief, Major General Charles A. Willoughby. 'How can I bomb north of the 38th Parallel without Washington hanging me?' Willoughby, it turned out, had left Truman's directive in Tokyo. A half hour later MacArthur emerged from his private cabin and remarked almost casually, 'I've decided to bomb north of the 38th Parallel. The B-29s will be out tomorrow. The order has gone to Okinawa.'" General Whitney describes this incident in his book on General MacArthur and concludes, "Here was no timid delay while authorization was obtained from Washington; here was the capacity for command decision and the readiness to assume responsibility which had always been MacArthur's forte."

General MacArthur quite clearly had tipped the balance in favor of troop commitment. The risks had not changed or lessened, but the nation's leaders became convinced that communist seizure of Korea could not be tolerated. MacArthur's personal appeal, in fact, received even wider recognition on 30 June when he was told, "Restriction on use of Army Forces ... are hereby removed and authority granted to utilize Army Forces available to you."

The Kingdom of Heaven (movie review)

I saw the movie and I am not impressed. To be politically correct(PC), the movie embraces the concept of "universal holiness". In the movie, the faithful christians are portrayed as evil, stupid or narrow-minded.

Some lines from the movie, "The man who does good to the world is the real Christian", "Burn the corpses. If God objects, then He is not true God" and "Let your conscience be the guide", make me think this movie is made by a bunch of pot-smoking non-Christians.

True believers believe the Bible and we really wait for the Kingdom of God. It is not the Kingdom of Conscience as the movie is so eager to portray. The Kingdom is a physical reality and I believe it is coming.

What to do to gain entrance into this wonderful kingdom? The Bible says, "I (Jesus) am the way, the truth and the life". Come to Jesus and receive Him to be the lord of your life. Read the Bible and obey God.

This life will pass by in short while. But, the Kingdom of Heaven is eternal.

The head of the Peaceful Unification society of Korea returned yesterday with the barrage of protest sfrom Korean Americans in Los Angeles. Mr. Kim who went to North Korea some money and goats (don't laugh, the situation is dire), signed the visitor's log in P'yangYang with
"My dear leader, Kim Il Sung, who should be praised as the ...".

Later, he told the reporters that he and others were scared of what NKs would do to them, if he did not praise KJI's father who started the Korean War.

What is the NK nuke crisis? Kim Jongil's attack on the U.S.? For what? To gain some rice and electricity? To gain some respect?

Condi Rice promised everything the NK said it wanted: Recognition as a soverign nation, No pre-emptive strike, etc.

How come NK is not stopping the nuke develpment when it got what it wanted?

The real reason for NK nuke crisis is not what it reported on the papers. KJI is working for the Chinese communist party. Chairman Hu wants KJI to threaten the U.S.

Till the U.S. is willing to trade with China...

China wants to trade NK nuke with Taiwan. If and when the general public gets so scared that the government is willing to give up Taiwan, then NK nuke crisis will be over. China started the crisis and China will keep it going till the U.S. give the Chinese what they want.

The U.S. should increase pressure on China. Kick their asses to cut off the oil supply to NK. If China does not listen, just put high tariffs on the Chinese goods and freeze their assets in the States. This will get their attention and may end so-called NK nuke crisis.

As a scientist, I must say there should be several theories about human origin.
1) creation by God
2) creation by an alien from a different planet
3) evolution from organic mixture
4) other more esoteric ones..different dimension, time travel, etc

The point I was making to Christian(he was a totally non-Christian, a heathen) was the evolutionists are only insisting (3). Very, very dogmatic. They are so closed-minded that even (2) was rejected.

In next few centuries, as humans venture out to space far beyound our immediate solar system, we may meet some aliens. The (2) will gain more weight then and win over (3). Mathematically, it has to be.

Then oh..about 30th century, (4) will be more popular.

BTW, there is a creature called fruit flies. They go thru one generation in several hours. Scientists, especially evolution-believers, have been observing fruit flies for decades; this amounts to billions of human years. Nothing changed. Some of you do not understand how the real world operates. If you show to a Japanese or a Korean an document and say “Look here, this document says…”, you think that will end the argument? A snowball in hell.

If Japanese troop ships show up at Dokdo, cry out to the imaginary world community and tell them about Korea’s situation and some country will come and help? Which country? Congo? Poland? Argentina?

The penny-wise and pound-foolish Japanese are at it again. They are risking the whole Korea-Japan relationship over a small island. They may get what they want but never again will be able to gain the trust of Koreans.

This puts the U.S. in a very, very awkward situation. If the war happens, it will be great for American economy and for California(this is where I live). America can sell more fighter planes and other weapons to Japan at high premium. The U.S. will be able to pay off the Treasury Bills held by the Japanese. That amounts to more than 30% of U.S. national debt.

However, the alliance of the U.S.-Japan-Korea will no longer exists(some say Korea has already left the alliance, but that is not true). And, Korea may have no other option but to join the Chinese camp.

A great loss. An irreparable loss.

Japan’s greed will mess up the U.S. plans. Shortly thereafter, China will attack Japan using Korean soldiers as its front troops. Should the U.S. defend Japan, if this happens? What do you think?

Well, you cannot tell that to a victim who just saw her *rapist around the corner once more. Yes, Korea had been the Japan’s slave for almost fourty years. Yes, Korea was only freed as the by-product of WWII. Yes, all Koreans spoke Japanese and used Japanese last names. Yes, Koreans were forced to participate in Shinto worship and recite the pledge to the Emperor of Japan. Some Christians refused and put to death.

What do you want? Just fall backward and play dead? Koreans will fight. I cannot guarantee they will fight to the extent of the Japanese’ example during WWII, but it would be very difficult for Japan to win easily.

Korean situation

It is like a Dracula movie. Korea, the South Korea(NK is already bitten by Russia and China and it has turned into a half-life), has to fight off three devils, China, Russia and Japan. The U.S. will not bite but it is not helping Korea to fend off Japan (nor China?) either.

SK must stand like a man with a torch. Whichever one lashes its tongue and gnarls its teeth at him, he must first fight. While he is fighting the other two will bite and he will become a zombie too.

But, heck, he cannot just lie down and play dead! He must get at least one. And, who knows the U.S. may suddenly come in a white horse to save SK, just like it has done in the Korean War.

All Koreans want to do is to die fighting. At least, they will get the first one who messed with them.

I do not like the present psedo-liberal government in SK. Nor do I share their dream of becoming a part of upcoming Chinese Empire.

However, do not mince word. Hating the right person to hate is a good thing. It is inherent protective mechanism; even the One turned ove moneychangers’ table and beat them. Would it be funny when Koreans oversea go “la-di-da” when Japan takes a part of Korean territory?

Have you seen the movie, Hotel Rwanda? The reasonable people in Rwanda were waiting for “THE CIVILIZED COUNTRIES” such as France, Germany and the U.S. to come and stop the street killing. Damn it, it is near the end of 20th century and people are all civilized. How can peple can hack a person in broad daylight in the middle of street and nobody comes to stop it?

Nobody came. The world can be cold and cruel place. Quite different from textbook world.

Japan can invade Korea. And, nobody may stop it.

Do not worry about how the other countries look at Koreans. After all is said and done, every country must fend for itself. When your neighbor wants to take your radio, you must shout like a crazy man. It is no time to reason and talk. If he is a reasonable person, would he want your radio in the first place?

I am glad that there are people like yourselves who know about Korea so much. You guys 100% correct. I am much older and my English writing isn’t great. So I will summarize my views. This may be what Korean nationals feel about this issure.

The Japanese are not quiet and cultured people as they seem to portray themselves to Europeans. They do fantasize frequently about their “glorious past”. The case in point is this “Dokdo” case. It is a clear attempt(they started it) to grab some land if they can. While NK is still threatening and America is looking the other way, these people wants to grab some momento of their former glory. And, Koisumi government is supporting it 100%. Their ambassador in Korea said it is Japan’s. Can you believe this people?

Wes, from Germay, do you know any ambassador stationed in a foreign country declaring blatantly that any part of the territory that he is stationed in actually belong to his native country? How tactless! What audacity! This is typical Japanese mindset. They are taught to be overtly aggressive against any Asian people while kowtowing to Caucasians.

Japan’s game plan is to take Dokdo case to the world court. And, while the court takes up the case, Japan will request for Korea to vacate the island and Japan will use force if necessary. In the court, having better legal skills and paying under the table money, they will get the island.

What evil schemers and land grabbers, they are!

Yes, I am a Japanese hater like anybody who suffered their tyranny which is ongoing looking at this Dokdo case. Sometimes, you have to stand up against your neighbor if the neighbor wants to rob your possession. This is Sunday in the U.S. and let me tell you what I think America is.

There is a “Force” in the universe. This “Force” claims that it made the Universe, the earth, all living creatures and the human beings. This “Force” walked with a particular race of people called Jews. However, soon these people abandoned the “Force”.

This “Force” worked with Spain, Germany Britain and is now working with America. President Bush was “allegedly” told by this Force to attack Iraqi dictator and liberate people. He followed this “Force”’s command.
Americans voted President Bush for the second term. Either these Americans are stupid or misled? Many people think so. I know many who voted for Pres. Bush believes this “Force”.

Yes, I do. You can say that I am naive or stupid. But I have some experiences that led me to the conclusion that this “Force” is real and true. Do you like to know about this “Force”? The name is “Jesus”.
Recently, this Force departed from Europe and He reside exclusively in the U.S. However, strangely this Force is strong in one other country. Where? In Korea. Yes, the savage and uncoothe people. This Force is very strong in Korea. Wonderful, Amazing!

If you like to know more about this Force, just get a Bible and start reading. It will tell you all about the history of mankind from the beginning and it will tell you about the ending as well.

However, for those who follow this “Jesus” will have a different place (different dimension?) to live called Heaven. Wierd? Crazy? If you think that, isn’t human life crazy? We do not know why we are here. We do not know where we come from and we do not know where we are going after death. Weird trip, huh?

I found the answer in the Bible and in Jesus. You can laugh. But, I believe my answer has 50-50 chance of working out. I think it is better than no answer. How about you?
